Operated by Cuatro Kowalski, who also runs Freedman’s Bar in Austin, Texas 46 BBQ is a new restaurant offering smoked up meats for barbecue lovers. After a long renovation process and several social media teases (dated back to 2015), Texas 46 BBQ is finally all set to offer its BBQ recipes. Kowalski has taken over the 30-year-old restaurant last summer and revamped the space. But he has managed to keep the same vibe in the new restaurant that officially opened in February.
Located on 2 Sun Valley Drive in Spring Branch, this new eatery can accommodate 300 patrons both indoors and outdoors. Chef and pitmaster Austin Fry prepare delicious smoked dishes in four thousand-gallon offset smokers. This means pork, briskets, beef ribs, and house-made sausage are all available by the half-pound.
Other dishes included in the menu are chicken fried steak burgers, poutine with pork ribs, skillet pies, and more. Fry had previously worked as the executive chef of Roaring Fork and La Condesa, as well as the executive chef of Blue Smoke out in Hong Kong. With his years of experience, he prepares a wide range of recipes for barbecue lovers.
Apart from the smoked recipes, Texas 46 also features a bar that serves different kinds of draft beers, wines, frozen drinks, and cocktails. Texas 46 BBQ remains open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Daily. All customers can book their free tickets in one-hour and 90-minute blocks on EventBrite.
The first available service will be 11 a.m. to noon Friday from, with eight subsequent service windows that run through 10 p.m. Tickets are just for seating only, the cost of food, beverage or gratuity has not been included in the tickets. You need to pay for food and other amenities separately.
