Sonny’s Smokin’ Showdown, a two-day event that celebrates all things barbecue, has already begun at Camping World Stadium Complex, Orlando. Today is the competition day where around 50 teams will test their luck and tomorrow the festival will open to the public starting at 11 a.m. For Saturday’s event, you have to pay $20 at the gate for adults, and it’s free for children under 10.
This event is organized to bring together pitmasters for an invitation-only barbecue competition. The next day barbecue fans can enjoy the festival including music and different kid-friendly activities. The teams coming from different regions will be cooking brisket, pork, chicken, ribs and mystery meat that will only be revealed at the event.
Each team had to qualify as a grand champion at another competition to be invited to Sonny’s event. Apart from that, the public will also get an opportunity to learn and enjoy some barbecue recipes during the event tomorrow. A cooking demonstration will be given to the participants at 11.30 a.m. On Saturday with experts like Jeff Adema from The Polite Pig in Disney Springs and Bryan Mroczka, who is Sonny’s BBQ’s head pitmaster.
With this initiative, the event’s team is hoping to bridge the gap between pitmasters and consumers. Meanwhile, they are trying to educate the guests more about barbecue. All this will be done in addition to live music with country artists Rodney Atkins and High Valley. Moreover, kid’s zome and doughnut and ribs eating contests will also be held for fun. Overall, this barbecue fest will be appealing to all the guests – be it kids or grownups. So, don’t forget to be there if you live nearby.
